La luce emessa da una sorgente viene divisa, dalla superficie semi-riflettente di un vetro piano-parallelo BS (beam splitter), in due fasci reciprocamente perpendicolari. I due fasci vengono riflessi da due specchi piani e ritornano verso il BS dove vengono ricombinati nella direzione dell\u2019osservatore. La sovrapposizione dei due fasci coerenti d\u00e0 luogo ad una figura di interferenza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>GB <\/strong>&#8211;\u00a0<strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong> Michelson interferometer &#8211; Designed at the end of the 1800s by the American\nphysicist Albert Abraham Michelson, it allows to study the interference between\nwaves, that is, the phenomenon that involves two or more waves which, spreading\nin a vacuum or in a medium, overlap each other. The light emitted by a source\nis divided, by the semi-reflective surface of a flat-parallel glass BS (beam\nsplitter), into two mutually perpendicular beams. The two beams are reflected\nby two flat mirrors and return to the BS where they are recombined in the\ndirection of the observer.
